About our guest speaker

In April 2018, Gate Safe appointed Rob Williams as their technical and training advisor, Rob has worked in the gate automation sector for 15 years and brings extensive knowledge to the team. His previous role as automation workshop supervisor has given him an in depth understanding of electric gates, the risks they pose and how to mitigate the risks to ensure safe gates.  As part of his previous role Rob was required to train engineers on automated products and oversee any new product development.

The technical and training advisor position will see Rob focusing on providing training, undertaking site surveys and providing detailed technical support for installers like Interphone.

Commenting on the move to Gate Safe, Rob says, “I’ve been a long-term supporter of Gate Safe since its inception and have first-hand knowledge of just how much damage an unsafe gate can inflict. I relish this new challenge which provides an opportunity to combine my technical training background and practical experience of working in the field with a personal desire to play an active part in helping to put a stop to any further automated or manual gate related accidents or fatalities occurring.”

Did you know… that it’s been estimated that over 90% of the gates in the UK are unsafe and require safety upgrade?

  • Since 2006, there have been 12 fatal accidents, with 6 of these occurring in managed housing developments
  • There have been a further 19 serious incidents where gates and barriers have fallen or collapsed due to poor construction resulting in significant injuries or fatalities
  • All the injuries and deaths could have been prevented with the application of the correct safety protocol
  • Receive fines for unsafe gates of up to £60,000, be at risk of civil claims, and even face prosecution for corporate manslaughter
  • Not all installers are professionally-trained in the field of gate automation, so many are totally unaware of the associated legislation
