running to raise valuable funds for samaritans

James Garfield, a designer for Interphone’s Ingeny business, will be running the Hackney Half Marathon in May for charity. He is aiming to raise £500.00 for Samaritans, the nationwide organisation that provides valuable emotional support to anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide.

The Hackney Half Marathon is now in its third year and is expected to attract over 13,000 competitors. The 13-mile course starts in Hackney Marshes, with a flat, fast route through the area, past local landmarks such as the famous Hackney Empire and Broadway Market, before taking the runners through the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. James has been training hard and is hoping to complete the event in around 2 hours.

“A few years ago I was commuting to work by train and about 30 minutes into the journey a tragic incident occurred. The train was brought to an immediate halt and it took a few moments before an announcement was made telling passengers that someone had committed suicide,” explains James. “As the train stood silent it was difficult to grasp what had happened or understand the mind-set of someone where this was there only option. Since then, I have been regularly donating to Samaritans and I would really appreciate any support for this amazing charity.”

Samaritans receives more than 600 calls an hour from people across the UK who are considering or been affected by suicide. If you would like to support James and this great cause then please visit [https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/James-Garfield].
